Our Integrated Approach

At The Children's Academy, we partner with families to nurture confidence, curiosity, and character so every child can grow, thrive, and reach their full potential. We provide rigorous, language-based learning in small classrooms with a low student-to-teacher ratio (6:2:1). A dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist is part of every K to 12 classroom, and occupational therapy is woven into each student's day. Students are grouped by academic level rather than grade, so we can meet each child where they are, challenging them at the right pace while protecting their self-esteem.

With Manhattan as our canvas, our language-based model builds the foundation for educational and social growth. Alongside reading, writing, math, social studies, and science, students benefit from art, field trips, and daily-living skills. Each child also receives individualized speech and OT services and participates in social-emotional learning using The Social Thinking curriculum. Our team of teachers, speech and occupational therapists, learning specialists, social workers, a transition counselor, and a family resource specialist works closely with families. With an open-door policy and a whole-student focus, we develop happy, confident learners prepared for life in and out of the classroom.

Our academic program is rooted in evidence-based practices and aligned with state standards, while tailored to each student's needs. Reading instruction (iReady and Magnetic Reading) is grounded in the science of reading, ELA emphasizes comprehension and critical thinking, and math (HMH Into Math) blends whole-class, small-group, and digital learning. Ongoing assessment lets us identify strengths, track progress, and provide modifications, accommodations, and instructional strategies so every student can access the curriculum at their own level and grow into a confident, independent learner.

As a New York State Board of Regents Registered High School, Children's Academy allows students to earn academic credits toward New York State diplomas or commencement credentials. Students do not earn their high school diploma at Children's Academy; instead, the credits they earn here are transferable to their next school, making their time here an essential steppingstone toward a college preparatory program. Our team helps students and families plan for life after high school, whether that means higher education, the workforce, or vocational training, through individualized plans and community partnerships with local businesses, colleges, and organizations.
